Sign up for an account at Mal's Ecommerce

Go to http://www.mals-e.com and sign up an account. All accounts at Mal's start off as the free version, which is enough if you just plan to use Paypal or are able to process orders on a physical terminal and just need to collect the credit card info on a secure server and retrieve it later.

If you have a merchant account and need to connect to a payment gateway or need advanced shipping - like the need to use USPS/UPS calculators to ship by weight - then you'll need to "upgrade" your newly opened account once you get your Mal's welcome letter and have access to the control panel to upgrade.

Fill out the form

To create a new account at Mal's you'll need to supply a little info about your business, or self, such as your name, company, telephone number, country, email address and URL. You would also select Business/Company as the type of organization since you're setting this up for your store.

Once you've completed the form in the step above this one, and have clicked the "Join Now" button you'll be redirected to this page - which has your username, password (1) and the server (2) your account will be on.

I would print this page and save it in your "important" file.

You're also given the option to "Login Now"

Password for payment area

The first time you log in you'll be asked to create a payment password. This is for a different login area where you can retrieve credit card info on any orders processed, if you have chosen to set up your account to collect cc info for you to later process manually on a physical terminal. This would be for those of you who have merchant accounts and terminals you can use to put credit cards through.
