How do I backup my entire website?

To generate a full backup of your website, you need to login to your cPanel (www.yourdomain.com/cpanel) and click on the Backup icon. Then click the "Generate/Download a Full Backup" link.

Enter the following information:

  • Backup Destination: To download the backup from your account, select "Home Directory." For the server to upload the backup to another server, select "Remote FTP Server."
  • Email Address: Enter your email address for confirmation of backup.
  • Remote Server: If you are downloading the backup from your account, leave this blank. If want the server to upload the backup to another account, enter the address of the remote server.
  • Remote User: If you are downloading the backup from your account, leave this blank. If you want the server to upload the backup to another account, enter the username of the remote server.
  • Remote Password: If you are downloading the backup from your account, leave this blank. If you want the server to upload the backup to another account, enter the password to the remote server here.

Click generate backup.

If you told the server to upload the backup to a another account, this will be done automatically. The server will also automatically upload your backup to your home directory, if you chose this setting. And in this case, you can login via FTP after the backup is done and download the backup file to your computer for safe keeping. (Please make sure that you delete the backup off your server after you have downloaded it, so that it doesn't take up space in your account.)
