GDPR – WordPress Users

GDPR – WordPress Users

GDPR is General Data Protection Regulation is the regulation that requires all internet businesses to protect the personal data and privacy of EU citizens for transactions that occur within EU member states. Non-compliance could cost companies dearly.

Every business needs to be compliant. If EU has access to your site, whether you sell products or not, you must be compliant.

I have done a bit of research, but implore you to do your own research as well.  It’s your business after all.

This is one good resource in plain terms

This is a good source for quickly creating policies

There are also Plugins available for WordPress users to help with GDPR.

Choosing a Name for Your Blog

If you already own a website, you understand the significance of choosing a good domain name.  A good domain name not only enhances the branding of your business and makes it easy for your readers to share with others.

If your blog is going to play a significant role in your business, then spend some time choosing the right domain name for it. People tend to remember memorable domain names that end with a dot com to spread it around easier.

Note: If you already have a domain name and hosting, you can easily add the WordPress as yoursite . com / blog — and skip this step of choosing a domain for your blog.

You can order your domain name with your hosting at Merchantmoms

Blogger comes with many themes ready to go, and WordPress offers many within the WordPress installation Appearance / Themes area to choose from. A quick search for WordPress or Blogger themes will gather plenty of results, both free and paid. One of the more popular ones is found at

If the Theme that you are installing provides instructions, be sure to read through and follow those instructions for the successful installation of the Theme. It is recommended that Theme developers provide installation instructions for their own Themes, because Themes can provide special optional functionality that may require more steps than the basic installation steps covered here. If your Theme does not work after following any provided instructions, please contact the Theme author for help.

Blogging for Business

Blogging for Business

There was a time when many of us used to keep diaries, logs or journals, lugging around a notebook wherever we went.  It was an efficient way of keeping track of things.  Today, the Web has taken the place of that book, in the form of a blog.

So What Is A Blog?

A blog, or web-log as it was once called, is today’s version of a diary.  It is just more sophisticated than that.  It is a user-generated website that collects your entries (known as posts) in reverse chronological order, always listing the most recent post first. Readers are also allowed to comment and give their opinions of any posts via a simple form on a blog, if you choose to enable that feature.

The real beauty of blogs lies in its simplicity.  It removes that tedious process of learning HTML, Web design or coding, that was once necessary  to operate a functional website.   You can update a blog via any Internet connection (Internet Browser), even updating it using a cell phone.  You don’t need special software on your computer to be able to use it.

Setting up a blog doesn’t take long at all (and that’s if you’re unsure of what you’re doing) and you are ready to publish your content.  It is that easy.

MerchantMoms will help you to connect your blog – either Blogger or WordPress to your current website if you need it. We are also happy to install WordPress for you, just as a simple part of the support we offer all of our customers.

How Blogs Applicable To Businesses

A blog is a perfect marketing vehicle for any type of business.  Whether you work from home or are the CEO of a Fortune 500 corporation, blogs will make an ideal addition to your marketing strategy.

Blogs create a face to your business that your customers can identify with and participate along (if you allow this).  It has become a valuable part of today’s consumer-generated media, giving consumers a platform to engage actively and participate in dialogs with key personnel within a company.

Blogs are also often used for affiliate marketing, sharing links that you can make an income from.

If you are running a business from home you can use blogs to:

  • Provide value-added content
  • Build a relationship with your readers
  • Establish trust with your customers while gaining credibility
  • Create awareness about your product offerings
  •  Test ideas and research your market by getting your readers and customers to participate in discussions
