Once you have built your site, you may think you are done and can sit back and wait.  Build it and they will come, right?  Well, not necessarily.

Hopefully while you (or your web master) were building the site you created good content.  Content with keywords inside. Write for your customers, while blending in your keywords so that it all flows together nicely.  If you sell a product, describe it well.  You want to make sure that your home page especially has good content, introducing your site.  Linking to products on your site is helpful, as well.

Get Verified

Once you are ready, you should verify your site with Google and Bing, you will need that for your sitemap.

Most sites automatically create a sitemap.htm, html, etc., and is great for your site but is not the same as the sitemap.xml we are teaching you here.  You need both the one your site created along with the xml version in this article.

Google’s XML format was designed for the search engines, allowing them to find the data faster and more efficiently.

XML sitemaps are not a tool for search engine optimization. They do not affect ranking, but do allow search engines to make more accurate searches and rankings. It does this by providing the data that a search engine needs, and putting it one spot, rather handy considering that there are millions of websites to sort through.

Making your sitemap.xml has gotten easier over the years.   We recommend the tool at XML SiteMaps.  You can choose the free option that will create  your site map xml for 500 urls (pages).   This is perfect for many sites.  Once you’ve created the sitemap, you will load it to your site, similar to the way you verified your site, then let Google and Bing know that it is there. XML How to
